Mountain winters are strange,
For just before losing everything to the dead of cold,
They give us the last of colours.

As if they’re just asking us,
To keep these colours for a grey morning,
When we might wake up with a heavy heart,
And remember that no matter how colourless our days might become,
The colours of Spring are always around the corner.

So here I stand,
Capturing all these colours in my heart,
Taking the last bit of sunshine,
And keeping it secure in my box of memories,
So that on some cold shivering afternoon,
I might sit down with them
And let their warmth engulf me.

For you see,
These mountain winters are quite strange...
