National Geographic Travelさんのインスタグラム写真 - (National Geographic TravelInstagram)「Photos and videos by @MichaelGeorge / At the start of every year, organizers of the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze submit an order for 200,000 pounds of pumpkins from local farmers. Starting in June they have a dedicated team of 10 pumpkin carvers who carve 500 to 1,000 pumpkins every week. These pumpkins are used to make elaborate sculptures, from dinosaurs to replicas of famous New York landmarks and even a working carousel. When the Blaze opens in mid-September, visitors arrive just as the sun goes down to witness this phenomenon of sculptural gourds. The Blaze is located at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. One funny fact I learned: Throughout the Blaze, deer and turkeys run amok on the property eating these beautiful artworks, and the carving team is constantly having to replace them. Despite their ongoing battle against nature and the inevitable rotting pumpkins, the carvers create a seemingly endless stream of thoughtful designs. There’s even a spinning windmill.
