Painted in 1995, Yoshitomo Nara’s ‘Cosmic Skier’ is an important early work that features the artist’s exploration of his now quintessential themes such as isolation and empowerment. Painted while Nara was studying in Germany, the artist was inspired by the contemporary German culture yet was alone in a foreign place. He often relayed such sentiments through his work, and often depicted scenes of solitude as seen in ‘Cosmic Skier’.
