On the day that the election was called for Joe Biden, someone placed a sign saying Voters Decide on a statue of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin greeting each other. Both sides in the deeply divided US look to historical motifs to anchor their message; indeed the first three words of the Constitution, “We The People…” can be seen tattooed both on the arms of Trump supporters and written on the signs of Biden backers.
