A special sale, for a special work! We are presenting Alberto Giacometti’s “Grande femme I,” a monumental nine-foot-tall bronze sculpture cast in 1960 during the artist’s lifetime, in a confidential, sealed bid private sale.

The sculpture is one of a series of four female figures that Giacometti created for an unrealized outdoor sculpture installation in Chase Manhattan Plaza in New York. Of all Giacometti’s sculptures of standing women, “Grande femme I” is perhaps his most dramatic, with the figure’s haunting, elongated form, and it represents the finest and grandest in scale by Giacometti to come to market since the record-breaking sale of “L'homme au doigt” in 2015.

“Grande femme I” is currently on view by appointment at Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries in #NewYork through 27 October, alongside other masterworks by Giacometti, “Femme Leoni” from 1947 and “Femme de Venise IV” from 1957, which will be offered in the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale livestreamed to the world on 28 October.
