The Japanese spider crab, shown in the video above, has the largest leg span of any arthropod in the world, reaching up to 12 feet long and weighing up to 41 pounds. The spider crab family contains about 200 species worldwide, all of which share an arachnid-like appearance. Within this family is the Australian giant spider crab, whose annual gathering at Port Philip Bay to moult attracts tourists from around the globe. Last year, this migration became the focus of intensive crabbing practices which, if allowed to continue, could put the species at risk.
