One of nine subspecies, the Javan leopard is a solitary, nocturnal carnivore. With advanced vision and hearing, these predators are well equipped for hunting in dense forests. When on the prowl, these cats move with a slow, crouching walk, but can run at bursts of up to 37 miles per hour to chase down prey. They are also powerful jumpers, capable of covering up to 20 feet in one leap - an impressive adaptation that can also aid in subduing prey.
