This species may be known as the common octopus, but its nothing short of spectacular. A well studied species, researchers have found that this octopus is able to tell how bright an object is, distinguish between different shapes, and recognize patterns. They are also exceptionally clever, successfully removing screw-on lids from jars and even retrieving food from commercial lobster traps.
