I’m refraining from a public endorsement in the hopes that people take a step away from media and make decisions based on their values and the world they truly want to live in. I support public endorsements, it’s just not the method I am personally choosing 💙💙 . 💭A major factor of successful communication: Whatever reasoning is being used must correspond with certain values or norms that both people agree upon and understand. . 🇺🇸Democracy, for instance, is a political process but it extends beyond the scope of politics. Successful communication is democratic communication. . ❌That success is tainted when someone argues a position because they benefit from people holding that position. It’s called strategic communication. . 💤Government and media do not benefit from democratic communication. They’d rather sell us a strategic set of values, a way of thinking, instead of us coming together and deciding for ourselves. They tell us who we are for their own benefit, and we believe them. . 🙇🏻‍♀️I am certainly guilty of this. Yesterday, staring at the CalWood fire burning 15 miles outside of Boulder, I thought of the environment and suggested a candidate in my Stories. Yet a candidate’s endorsement highlights the irony of everything I just said. Vote for _________ because they are right and you are wrong! . 💔We are all wrong... so very, very wrong. Our world is burning literally and figuratively. We are more divided than ever before. There is no successful communication, especially on social media. . 🙏🏻That all being said, I implore you to identify your values and norms - the ones you’d be proud to live in your every day life. Vote for a candidate that, even though they might not embody all those values, will at least preserve the framework of democracy that allows us to express those values. . ❤️Know your values.
