I had a party....with @juliapricemusic, @kristenkenney, and a plethora of alcoholic gifts delivered from @annagrams24. This photo and video were taken shortly after the delivery. This moment marks “The Beginning.” I think we were all in a bit of shock, but also, I couldn’t stop laughing. Me?! Cancer?! You’ve got to be kidding. Must have been all those years of eating orange soda and Kraft mac and cheese. Or maybe it was fate (after all, my horoscope is Cancer.) Or maybe... One drink in, it dawned on me that MAYBE cancer patients are best off not drinking alcohol (?) So I put the glass down and asked the girls if they’d join me in attending a breathwork class down the street. The girls obliged (though pretty sure @kristenkenney was a few glasses in at this point) and so off we went. It was my first ever holotropic breathwork class, but I was forever changed. As someone who has been a longtime advocate of plant medicine, I was struck by the simplicity of this breathing hack that requires zero psychedelics but has so much power to take us deeper within ourselves and cultivate a state of calm. I sobbed that night, breathing though 20 minutes of cinematic music on a floor with 10 strangers. The owner of the @becrystalclear_ space, Sugar, opined me to return throughout treatment. “Breath work is cleansing and healing,” she said. I believed her. I would go back many times throughout treatment, whenever I was feeling strong enough — and had more profound experiences, which perhaps someday I will share. In the meantime, I encourage anyone who is interested to find a breathwork professional in their area.
