I’ve never been a big fan of working out, but I now consider it a critical part of my prevention against cancer reoccurrence.
When I started chemotherapy last summer, I was already underweight, but the struggle to find things I could eat made me drop even more weight. Halfway through chemo, my doctors were incredibly worried I’d developed cachexia, which is a syndrome in which the body starts to eat its own muscle.
So I dramatically increased my protein intake, and started eating organic meat after 10 years as a pescatarian. With the help of a trainer, twice a week, I gained 12 pounds and was able to finish treatment feeling strong.
Now, I run 20 minutes every other day (combined with strength training), and I feel mentally and physically sharper than I have in years. To see my routine workout, click on my Reels section for a video for that.
