Here was another place in India where a year ago, I became vastly lost for what seemed hours in a field of giant tablecloths. Fabric, by the hundreds, was drying upon bushes and cables after being washed in a river near Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. The cleaning chemicals poured into the river were many tragic environmental fits of abuse to water in India that never seemed to end. The strange part was how two cloth cleaners wearing blue shirts elongated as one behind a shiniest of orange tablecloths, hanging amongst the most massive laundry landscapes I’ve seen.
