Multiple sun reflections off the ripples in the glass smooth water of the Moose River create a surreal scene as my daughter Jessica paddles through the mist of the chilly morning. Shot last weekend during our three-day, 40+ mile paddleboard adventure on the Moose River in Western Maine. Second shot shows the full height crop of the image, which includes a cool sunburst at the top, but also a lot of lens artifacts above Jessica. I decided I liked the tighter crop of the first shot better but thought I’d also share the wider shot. Which do you prefer? I’m curious because in video, people seem to love lens flare and sun artifacts in the lens, but in stills, usually not. The key photo tip here when shooting into the sun is just don’t worry about it, shoot and see what you get.
