These are a couple of my most well known images, and I know I’ve shared them here before. You may have seen them, but do you know what it took to capture these images at the top of the canopy? I shot them from the highest tree blind I have ever made, 50 meters (165 ft.) up in the biggest tree in the area, where I constructed a blind literally out on a limb on the opposite side of the tree from this perch used by the birds. For about a week, I climbed my rope in the dark, and got set up before dawn to wait for the birds to come. Yes, a lot of effort for a few shots, but well worth it. Truly unique images rarely come easily. Right now these prints are on sale, but only till tomorrow, Wed Sep 16. And I’m donating 50% of profits to the forest guardians in Papua who protect the land where this species and other Birds-of-Paradise live, but currently have no income due to covid and a lack of visitors.
