In 1963, over 200 thousand people gathered at the nation's capital for the #MarchOnWashington. They took a stance #InDefenseOfBlackLives, and we are grateful for the work set forth by organizers and freedom fighters, some who are still in the struggle with us today. #BlackAugust is a month filled with a rich history within the Black Community. From the Birthdays of James Baldwin and Janie Porter Barrett to the uprisings in Watts and Ferguson. There is no doubt that August 28th is an important date in our history. Today is a date of mourning the brutal murder of Emmett Till, of fighting for our rights in Washington, D.C. -- and now, a day where we roll out a new vision for Black lives. @MaryHooks made a profound statement when she said, "Black Lives Matter is an old prayer spoken in new tongues, articulated in a hashtag."
