On Black Friday 2021, following the release of the Facebook Files (which revealed how much Meta knew about the very real harms being caused by their platforms and yet were doing nothing about it), Lush signed out of Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat until these platforms took action to provide a safer environment for users.

Two years on, has Meta cleaned up its act? Sadly but perhaps not surprisingly, no. Deliberately-addictive algorithms are still filling our feeds with harmful content and misinformation to drive engagement. Meanwhile their surveillance-for-profit business model – one that underpins all the 'Big Tech' companies – tracks our every move and sells our data, making them untold billions.

That's why we're campaigning for legislative change that puts the control back in the hands of the people. We've teamed up with People vs Big Tech – a decentralised movement challenging the power and abuses of the Big Tech giants.
