ZOO Magazineさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ZOO MagazineInstagram)「Zhang’s offering for Gallery Weekend Berlin at Galeria Plan B is as much an exercise in philosophy as it is a curation of wonderfully bizarre aesthetic objects. Titled Resolution of Traits, she uses a microscopic camera to create digitally complex collages that render their subjects so distorted and changed, they are unrecognizable from their primary forms. Using a selection of scientific visualizations of molecular structures, Zhang interplays these images with those of clothes, food, tableware and other vernacular items, traversing subject and medium, at times even moving into painting, evading a sense of rootedness or any clues to former identities. In harnessing her agency as author of this experimental and dynamic practice, Zhang asserts control over the image, in the process revealing how entrenched and persuasive the image has become in our society. Zhang’s perspective realizes the act of seeing as a constantly evolving system. The act of layering also challenges the notion of a finite or ‘whole’ image, as we are immersed in a fictional realm where authenticity and the corporeal bares no real tangibility. A rhetorical question is then served by Zhang, is the act of seeing content in itself? Zhang’s exhibition at Berlin Gallery Weekend injects striking creativity into this perplexing existential quandary.
