Buchmann is showing two artists for Berlin Gallery Weekend across their two spaces, Buchmann Galerie and Buchmann Box.

Exhibiting at the first space will be Clare Woods, with her new series of paintings If Not Now Then When. Woods reverts back to her initial training as a sculptor, interrogating the physicality of her subjects as a way of drawing awareness to the current age of mass consumption. Vases of flowers and abstracted chandeliers are instilled with sincere emotional weight, challenging our disposable throw-away culture. At the source of each of Woods’ works is a ritualistic process where each subject is stripped back to its skeletal foundations relying on the artist’s vision as a restorative articulation of each object’s potential.

Bettina Pousttchi will also be showing new works, sculptures from a continued series, Vertical Highways. Pousttchi is concerned with urbanity, having for many years made works from objects found in the street, such as traffic bollards, crowd barriers and other objects used to regulate movement in public spaces. Showing over Berlin Gallery Weekend, Pousttchi manipulates these found objects, in this exhibition crowd barriers, into vertical structures that are almost figurative in their rejection of their horizontal former lives.

Buchman promises an interesting program, each of their artists channeling their sculptural prowess to transform and elevate the vernacular object.
