Born to Polish-Jewish parents in Nuremberg in the 1920’s, Metzger was evacuated to Britain under the Refugee Children’s Movement. This political backdrop went on to be skeletal to Metzer’s practice and his historic development of the Auto Destructive art movement. Through an exclusive collaboration with the Gustav Metzger Foundation, the artist’s work will be shown in a new light, accompanied by specially created pieces by artists Latifa Echakhch and Miroslaw Balka.  Latifa Echakhch’s body of works complements those of the late artist, her adoption of domestic items that are tied to social burden and responsibility provide contemporary musings on Metzger’s critique of capitalism. Function is revised by the artist questioning the weight that these vernacular items hold.
