Photo by @melissafarlow When I shot this photo on my first assignment at National Geographic magazine, I was accustomed to photographing ONLY in black and white and my eye was not sensitive to see color. I sure got a quick education when I saw this frame on the light table. It opened up a whole new world. The color is not manipulated. The alligator was sunning in very shallow water on white sand, and the angle of the rays cut through the naturally occuring tanin making it look like Koolaid.
