Sneaking in snack time between tweets -- always a good idea. Black-capped #vireo songs have a large syllable repertoire, much larger than other vireos, letting them really earn the songbird distinction. As America’s tiniest vireo, they’ve made a big comeback. When the black-capped vireo was listed as an endangered species back in 1987, only 350 were known to exist in the wild. Now there are an estimated 14,000 of them, thanks to the dedicated conservation efforts of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, tons of partners and private landowners. Under the Trump Administration, this species was delisted from the Endangered Species Act due to recovery. Now birders can look for these melodious #songbirds at Balcones Canyonlands #NationalWildlifeRefuge in #Texas or #WichitaMountains National Wildlife Refuge in #Oklahoma.
