Candid photography is her forté. “The more natural it is, the better it is to grasp the vibe”, she said. Currently working on a future shoot for British Vogue, this would make Magdelena the second, Black woman after Nigerian-Jamaican photographer Nadine Ijewere, to have shot for this world leading publication. Although Magdelena is still at the start of her career in photography, the London College Of Fashion graduate has already faced some of the challenges that come with working in a white, male-dominated field. Last July, Magdelena worked as the photographer for Adwoa Aboah’s campaign with Nike (at her request), that launched a special-edition jersey, celebrating the model’s story and her successful community platform, Gurls Talk. The model-activist has been incredibly nurturing of Magdelena’s career. “I loved working with Adwoa”, she says, “and getting to shoot Serena Williams was obviously a dream come true”. Continuing to shoot for the stars, the 24-year-old photographer is also vocal on mental health issues. Struggling with depression herself, she founded @thegdcproject which aims to shed a positive light on mental health and allow young female creatives to build connections. To collect the nostalgic moments captured through Magdelena’s lens, her dream is to one day publish a book. And as her portfolio continues to multiply and new opportunities find her, it’s not hard to believe that this dream will come true.
