Photo by @DaisyGilardini Antarctic sunrise The first rule in photography is to be there. If you aren't there, you won’t be able to get the picture.
Over the years I've learned that no matter what the weather forecast is, you have to be on location and ready to shoot. Quite often it's in bad weather that you get the nicest images. You never know when the light might peek through the clouds. And when it does, it might be really spectacular and much more dramatic than during clear skies.
During my recent expedition in Antarctica, we decided to wake up at 3 a.m. so we could be at our landing spot well before sunrise. Around 4:30, the clouds started dissipating, leaving the first warm rays of sun to shine through the fast-moving clouds.
By 7 a.m. we were back aboard our cozy yacht for a hearty breakfast and a quick rest before our next photo shoot.
