We had been on the Ganges River most of the afternoon in Bhagalpur, returning to land by this sacred river at night. Above the shoreline under a mammoth new bridge was an area filled with small dhaba’s (little restaurants). Taken by all the noise and lights, there was one dhaba most noticeable because of its pale avocado-colored whirly green light, a restaurant occupied like many parts of India, entirely by men. Becoming more surreal, once inside, a movie set played out under a moving typhoon of layered smoke from an open wood stove.
