It's important to me that everyone has a good time and that includes me not worrying about where the dogs are. Chewie (the Shepherd) is a senior dog, so he usually doesn't run off. However, Hans (the Rotterman), seems to have endless energy to explore. I have discovered the following two tricks that have really helped me out while camping with dogs: Tip #1 A simple bell. It’s a very easy way to keep track of your dog. When Hans goes out of sight, I can tell how far away he is by the sound of the bell. I have used lights in the past, but I've had issues with them falling off, turning off, or being destroyed by water. I've used the same bell for years with no problems!! Tip #2 A backpack. Hiking with two large dogs in the summer means I need to pack a lot of water. To help with the weight of the pack, I have Hans carry some of it. The backpack actually serves two purposes: the reflectors and the bright colors of the bag help me locate Hans if he goes go out of sight.
