Our expedition kayak athlete Chris Korbulic loves making coffee for whoever he's adventuring with (in this case, his girlfriend). Here are his tips for making a great cup, no matter where you happen to be. ⠀ ⠀ Chris's Camp Coffee Tips⠀ Tip #1 -- Camp coffee is usually reserved for a morning routine, but don't hesitate to stop for a quick cup on a chilly afternoon with a great view, or let it motivate you to move out of camp and get a couple miles down the trail before you have your morning brew. Remember: the best coffee doesn't always have to be at camp…and it tastes even better when shared with your camping buddy(s). ⠀ ⠀ Tip #2 -- Brewing method: there are a myriad of gadgets you can use to achieve the ultimate brew, but I still prefer a nice paper filter or no filter at all. Boil water, let cool 10 seconds, add grounds, steep 3-4 minutes then slowly pour through the filter. If you're careful, you can reuse the paper filter. If you’re not using a filter, just swirl the pot and tap the side or sprinkling cold water on top and you should get a good clean pour off the top. ⠀ ⠀ Tip #3 -- Some like it black, I like it with a little powdered coconut milk. Remember: you can add powdered coconut milk to your breakfast, and probably dinner as well for a little extra flavor and a calorie boost. ⠀ ⠀ Tip #4 -- If you can spare a little extra space, an AeroPress with paper filters is the best way to make a simple cup of camp coffee. If you can spare the space and weight, might as well bring a stainless steel moka pot. And remember to bring extra ground coffee, just in case. ⠀ ⠀ On August 8, Chris will be Sleeping Under The Stars with us and we hope you will too! When you wake up in the morning you can use Chris’s tips to make coffee for your camping buddies. Share your own camping tips in the comments with #EB100 for a chance to win a Backyard Adventure Kit worth over $500 or the grand prize – a trip for two to Rocky Mountain National Park.
