My (@garliacornelia) journey with @publictheaterny actually began when I was working on my MFA @newschoolperformingarts #newschoolfordrama and one of my professors said that The Public would be a good fit for my work as a playwright. I applied several times to the #emergingwritersgroup and it wasn’t until late 2017 that I had an interview. I made it to the final round! 🙌🏾🥳 • If you have read any of my essays linked in the stories or my patreon posts, then you know that the boost of acceptance, even as finalist was soul-filling. While I was not accepted, I didn’t stop applying to other things (I ended up with a writing residency that summer for Parent artists @poppspacking ) and by January of 2019, I ( @garliacornelia ) began my adventure there as a Line Producer. 🌟 • My divorce was fresh and my life, as you can read in the linked American Theatre Essay was in the midst of a great transformation. • Since I began, I have worked on 5 shows. #coalcountry opened just before the quarantine began. Each one it’s own unique experience. Each one thrust me deeper into the “real world” and away from my children in a way. I was a new kind of #workingparent. @paaltheatre • I have worked with some of the most talented artists in the country and it has been my honor to learn and support their artistic visions and to exercise some new wings. • It is no secret that Theatre Institutions across the country are undergoing major changes as Racial inequity and white supremacist practices are exposed. As someone who’s career has been focused on Black artists, it is true that my work at The Public changed that a little bit, but I am grateful to have gotten this job that is more that a job. The theatre, as you have learned is in my blood and to share this with my family even has been a joy. 🧒🏾 👧🏾 • My children are always welcome🙏🏾.
