I was a freshman at @iutheatre when it became clear to me that the work being put on the mainstage theatres was not inclusive of the student body. • Even though @iubloomington is a PWI (#predominantlywhiteinstitution ), the voices of Black students and stories from a lens of Black Americans was missing on their stages. I wanted to form a group. • It wasn’t the first time it was done and it is important to note the history is the @iuaaai at @iubloomington - I was a member is The African American Chorale Ensemble and new first hand that a full Black artistic life was possible / but why was Theatre not included. Black Curtain was to fill that void and where I learned. • I began as a Stage Manager and left as a Director, Playwright, Photographer and Videographer. #multihyphenateintraining • By the time I completed my work on a Masters in African American and African Diaspora Studies in 2007, Black Curtain had a history of productions under it’s belt. • 👉🏾SWIPE For a look a Black Curtain’s history!👈🏾 🚫NOT PICTURED: Our Awards! 🏆 Black Curtain partnered with the Office of Diversity Education and worked to support modeling cross-cultural communication. Towards the end of my time at IU, I produced #RedVolution, an #hivaids benefit concert hosted by former @mtv vj @quddus and IU Student and friend @sherhara.
