They breed mainly on the island of Mykines (but you can see them all over the Faroe Islands), making their homes in these sharp, tall cliffs above the crashing waves of the Atlantic. Once the breeding season is over, often toward the end of July, it is legal to catch the puffins for food—a tradition that has been part of Faroese culture for over 300 years.
