Painted in energetic brushstrokes, 'Le bassin des yachts à Deauville' (circa 1927) dynamically captures the spontaneous motion and build of the energy at the harbour on a windy day. Raoul Dufy removes the shadow from the objects, flattening and enveloping the scene in large swatches of colour. Each shade animates the objects on which it falls, a record through tone of the ever-changing seascape that so captivated the artist.
