Ambassador Rohatyn – who is best known as the resilient investment banker who helped save NYC from bankruptcy in the latter half of the 1970s – acquired the bronze monkeys in Paris after discovering the visionary work of Les Lalanne while serving in his role as the U.S. Ambassador to France. Since then, the golden monkeys were a captivating centerpiece of his New York living room, enchanting all guests from their prominent position perched on the fireplace mantel.
