Photo by @Gerd Ludwig Decades after the world’s worst nuclear disaster to date, vines encroach on a farmhouse as nature reclaims the abandoned settlements in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine. The explosion of Reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant contaminated thousands of square miles and forced more than a quarter of a million people to abandon their homes.

This image will be featured alongside two of my exhibits, “The Long Shadow of Chernobyl,” and “Moscow – Winds of Change” at the 2020 Festival La Gacilly-Baden in Austria. This year’s festival, celebrating photography in and of Eastern Europe, will run from July 14 to October 26, exhibiting outdoors among the gardens, parks and buildings in Baden, Austria.
