Photo by @bertiegregory A newborn harp seal pup lies on an ice floe in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Quebec, Canada. After finding an unfrozen placenta on the ice, we knew there must be a pup only minutes old nearby. After rounding a big chunk of ice, we found this tiny little pup with its mother. Barely able to hold its own head up, it was certainly one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen! Mothers suckle their pups for just 10 to 14 days. They then abandon the pups and head north.
