Photo by @amivitale A giraffe frolics outside Doulouwal Peulh, a village about 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Niger's capital of Niamey. It is part of Niger's giraffe zone, a government-defined region where giraffes and humans coexist. There are currently only 600 endangered West African giraffes alive on the planet. Creating a satellite population in the Gadabedji Biosphere Reserve was vital to helping the long-term survival prospects of the subspecies.
