Born within two years of each other, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein each played a crucial role in the evolution of Pop Art.
In Roy Lichtenstein’s ‘Imperfect, 1988’ his trademark stripes and dotted patterns come to life in screenprint and collage, hemmed in by geometric lines, venturing into abstraction within the genre of Pop Art (image 1). As evidenced in ‘22 Carats, 1979’, Rauschenberg’s characteristic techniques of fabric collage and solvent transfer draw together his inspiration from sports imagery and objects of movement such as bicycles or vehicles (image 2). These works feature side by side in Swiss Made UNLOCKED, a new online sale spanning 13 collecting categories from Contemporary and Modern Art to Old Masters, Swiss Art, Prints, Photographs, Decorative Arts and more. Bidding closes tomorrow, 30 June – see link in bio for more! #sothebyszurich #sothebysonline #roylichtenstein #robertrauschenberg #popart #popartist #contemporary #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist
