CANON USAさんのインスタグラム写真 - (CANON USAInstagram)「#BehindTheShot with #CanonExplorerOfLight @damianstroh | "I have photographed a lot of sports in my time as a photographer, but when Canon came to me and asked me to lead a workshop on wind surfing I had to give it some thought. I knew absolutely nothing about the sport. Of course, I've adapted to a lot of unusual sports, bullfighting and lawn mower racing come to mind. So I accepted the gig, thinking it would be fun and started making plans. It turns out an old colleague from my newspaper days, John Chao, was an expert windsurfer and at one time a professional. I contacted John and he showed me a lot about how the sport worked and what to expect on the water. He was an absolute and unbelievable resource, and to top it off he lived in the town where we were holding the workshop in, Hood River, Oregon. He had all the inside information. . The day of the workshop dawned with a promise of some pretty stiff wind so the students and I were excited to get into shooting. Canon rounded up a bunch of guys to sail and I went over some things with the students that I do to prepare for a shoot: - Camera gear and controls set and ready to photograph. - Determine your correct lens, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. - Watch the athletes a few times and make a mental plan of where you expect the action to happen. - Check in with the athletes and see what they are thinking going forward so you can determine whether you need to adjust your position, or your camera settings. - Don't be scared to try something new! The windsurfers were a great bunch and we had a lot of fun making the photographs. It was a challenge but we made some nice frames. For the students my hope was that they would all leave the day with a photograph they liked and I think we accomplished that goal."
