There are so many things I've learned since coming out. Things about myself, my views, why all of our voices matter. I have such a privilege to be here today. To use my voice. To share my story. To be openly gay and still compete as a professional golfer. All because of Trans women of color standing up for LGBTQ+ rights. I feel that it is my duty to stand up for them and to continue the legacy that they have created for so many of us. Injustice and inequality is real and relevant. Yes...we have come a long way but there is still so much to be done. I honestly hadn't realized or seen how bad the homophobia, transphobia, and racism is in this country. My coming out experience was very positive, and way beyond my expectations. So my view of these things were looked at through rose colored glasses in a way. But through trying to educate myself and also seeing the events that are happening, my views have changed a lot. I recognize that there is still a lot of good in this world. However, the discrimination is not acceptable. I will continue to stand up and fight for the oppressed. Taking action, making our voices heard, speaking out for what is honorable is the only way we can create change.
