Tear gas, rubber bullets, percussion grenades, and physical force were used. After the area was cleared Trump, several members of his cabinet, his daughter, and son-in-law all walked over to stand in front of the church while he held up a Bible. He did not go there to pray. He did not go there to call for the rest of the police officers from murdered George Floyd. He did not go there to call for a de-escalation of vandalism. He didn’t go there to call for an end to systemic racism. He went there for a selfish photo op. He put American lives in danger, both police and civilian for his own gain. I hope those of us who are protesting, whether in person on line, or who simply care about ending racism for the future of our country. Will remember this moment in November and vote up and down the ticket for leaders who are willing to fight for positive change. If you are outraged by the murder of George Floyd, you MUST VOTE. Not voting is no longer an act of cynical intellectual meaningless protest, it is an act of selfishness. If you are in the streets raising your voice today, please be mindful of your strategy and what you’re trying to communicate. I’ve been at protests for decades. I understand it may make you feel empowered or even high to lash out at property that are symbols of oppression, but in the long run it destroys communities and makes life after the protest harder for parents who need groceries, families who need jobs and small business owners who are trying to thrive.
