Over and over again we’ve seen this. We need a massive shift in culture that says police violence is not ok. EVER. And that the race based inequities in our country that have continued, from slavery through Jim Crow and until now are no longer acceptable. Period. It starts with each of us no longer looking away from the ugliness of hate that exists and calling it what it is. No more excuses. We’ve added body cameras and nothing changed. We’ve seen video after video of “legal” lynchings and nothing has changed. People silently, peacefully, have protested and nothing changed. Until all of us decide to embody the spirit that racism is not acceptable, and work together as “anti-racists” to bring an end to it, our silence will be complicit with the message of our President who has worked daily to enable a climate where open hatred, racism and overt white supremacy have become normalized. It’s time now for everyone who cares- everyone who believes in equity for all and believes in the health and safety of each American, (especially African Americans who are disproportionately singled out), to raise your voice and embody the change the country’s pain is crying out for. Speak up wherever and whenever you see hate, share your wisdom with the youth, talk to your neighbors and let them know that they are not alone as people who are opposed to racism, learn history and most of all FIGHT MINDFULLY WITH LOVE in your hearts with every breath each of us have for a more just and peaceful society.
