But even that attention is short lived, and rarely leads to real change. We'll have achieved change when people of color don't have to live in fear, don't receive side glances on the hiking trail, are authentically represented in the outdoor industry. The list goes on. The black community has been speaking out for a long time - throughout history. I haven't spoken up because I'm scared I'll say the wrong thing. But that in itself is wrong, and fear of misspeaking is nothing in comparison to the fear people of color experience every day, going about normal life. So I'll try, and probably make mistakes, and learn and do better. I'm also learning what not to say - partly from my own mistakes, and partly from information from leaders in our community. Thank you to those who are helping us learn. The outdoor industry has a long way to go. Social media isn't even a drop in the bucket in transforming our country to be anti-racist. But it's at least good for awareness. Some things we CAN do: Buy books, choose TV shows and movies, and opt for toys for the kids in your life that show people from different backgrounds and that teach real American history. Practice real friendship and intimacy by listening (without ego and defensiveness) when POC talk about their experiences and their perspectives. They’re speaking about their pain. VOTE. Call legislators. Support businesses led by people of color. Stand up against racist jokes and comments. Keep learning. Show compassion.」5月31日 1時11分 - paigeclaassen
