I can’t claim to be the most die hard MJ fan but I will say that meeting this Legend, even for a brief moment, was a huge honor. . . Back in the height of my wheelchair basketball career @thehartford insurance company had a contract with the NCAA and as the founding partner of the @usparalympics thankfully they got us Paralympians involved to showcase our sport and raise awareness for the @paralympics. That meant that myself and my teammates @pattyandtheprevopair @cmschwab12 and @stephwheeler10 along with the WC Bball men’s player got to go to the NCAA final four for a number of years. . . We would put on wheelchair basketball demos at hoop city (an arena filled w all things basketball) to the crowds of people celebrating March madness. It was insanely fun! . . In 2009 we were in Detroit (Tar Heels would go on to eat Michigan State in a great final game) when #thehartford dropped the surprise of all surprises on us lowly wheelchair basketball players. They invited us to the @nba Hall of Fame induction ceremony. With John Stockton, Vivian Stringer, David Robinson and the #goat Michal Jordan in the line up, just being in the audience for that was more than incredible. . . Then, just before the ceremony, our favorite dude John Carideo told our crew “you’re about to meet Michael Jordan” 😶 . . It seemed like seconds later the Hall of Fame class of 2009 walked into a tiny little booth where we were waiting just to take a picture... WITH US... WHAT?! WE WERE FREAKING OUT. . . I just remember how small my hand felt in Michael Jordan’s huge hand when we met and how I didn’t even come up to Robinson’s belt line sitting in front of him. Then as the crew lined up behind us, MJ puts his hands on Patty’s shoulders and she literally SCREAMED out loud 🤣🤣🤣 dead. Hahah. . . Oh and Steph cried.
