Photo by @daisygilardini | During my last expedition to Antarctica, we had the great opportunity to land at Baily Head, a prominent headland on Deception Island. The island is the caldera of an active volcano and lies in Antarctica’s South Shetland Islands.
The biggest chinstrap penguin colony in Antarctica, more than 50,000 pairs in all, is found on the eastern outer slopes of the caldera. As you can imagine, the beach is crowded with penguins, both incoming and outgoing. I spent several hours focusing on the incoming penguins and their great acrobatics when landing.
