In 2006, I had my first encounter with the supposedly fearsome leopard seal, pictured here on the hunt for penguin chicks. On that expedition, a female took me under her care for four days, constantly trying to feed me penguins! Since that encounter, I have been in the water with hundreds of leopard seals. I have found each one just as inquisitive, playful, and gentle as the next.
