The southernmost city of the ancient Nabataean Kingdom (also known for the incredible structures at Petra farther north in Jordan), Hegra is an absolute gem in the desert. Built in the first century B.C. and made up of 131 rock-cut tombs with ornamental facades, Hegra became Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008.
