I feel so grateful that I’ve grown up with my grandparents who’ve kept these Greek traditions and values in our family! The way that I found out that my family was different to other families in Australia was when I introduced Tobi to my family. He couldn’t believe that having 100 people to your house for lunch was just a normal and casual event for us hahah. He was like “this is NOT NORMAL!!!” I’m 28 years old and I have dinner with at least 8 people every night, including my parents and my sister, and we don’t live together. I wouldn’t have it any other way, it’s just what we do!! I love that when my grandparents came to Australia from Greece they made sure they didn’t lose that culture, and they were able to pass it on to my parents and now me. All of the important values that I have, like working hard, prioritising time with family, having strong morals and having respect for your elders, have all come from them.
