Jean Dubuffet’s series of ‘Hourloupe’ paintings were first absent-mindedly brought to life in the summer of 1962, while the artist was on the telephone. With his free hand, he began to draw spontaneously with a blue and red ballpoint pen on paper 🖍 The resulting series was arguably the French artist’s most recognised and acclaimed body of works. Pulsating with energy, Épisode Champêtre exemplifies the jubilant spirit of the Hourloupe paintings. The work will be on view in London ahead of #SothebysContemporary Evening Auction this February 11.
