I shot this photo while working on a piece about Basque culture in Idaho for National Geographic Travel. Did you know that Idaho has the largest Basque population in the United States? In the mid-1800s Basque sheepherders brought their husbandry knowledge to Idaho. Now there are various festivals and traditions celebrated in places like Boise and Ketchum each year.
