The unofficial capital of North Iceland, Akureyri sits at the bottom of Eyjafjörður fjord and enjoys pretty mild weather for the region. After days of cold driving rain, my time in Akureyri was a welcome reprieve. There are many things to do in this mountain town, but I highly recommend spending at least an hour or two among the birds, trees, and flowers of its botanical garden.
