Bristlecone pines are the ultimate survivors. At #GreatBasin #NationalPark in #Nevada these amazing trees grow in isolated groves where conditions are harsh, enduring cold temperatures, a short growing season and high winds. Bristlecone pines in these high-elevations grow very slowly, and in some years don't even add a ring of growth. This slow growth makes their wood very dense and resistant to insects, fungi, rot and erosion. Among the Earth’s oldest living organisms, they can live more than 5,000 years.
