This early evening I was driving home through Tyringham, Massachusetts, when a most beautiful rain came. Almost quickly as it had begun, it ended. A warm shaft of sunlight appeared that lit a hill with a cloud of thick fog that briefly passed before my dripping wet windshield...felt I was driving through a painting. I began to feel sad, then sick. The cloud of fog resembled smoke from a fire, and I became sadder, deeply disturbed by the reality taking place in Brazil at the very moment I saw such beauty. I published this series of prettiness on my IG Stories earlier this evening for a reason...to lure us in through what we seek as people; Beauty. Closing with the reality also in occupancy on our earth, recent photos moving across Instagram showing the most extreme levels of the Amazon rainforest burning. The second photograph here I took back in 2008 flying over the Mato Grosso region of Brazil on a story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. Those were the worst days of destruction to the lungs of our earth. Today we are ringing our extinction alarm louder than ever...there are 85% more fires in the Amazon than last year. Our leaders have gone mad. Some of us, through greed, have joined their delusion. Making matters worse, there’s a movement on social media with the hashtag, #prayforamazonia. You can pray if you want. Reality...we don’t need “prayers” for the Amazon. We need humanity to hold our politicians, and each of us, accountable for the ruinous actions we are doing to ourselves.

it’s a mess, Jay. @jayrhindphotography. Bolsanaro tipped the responsibility upon farmers. while it is true the farmers are doing the burning, it is not to clear fresh grown soybeans or corn, as many farmers do. it’s to clear pristine rainforests to make larger and larger and larger and larger and larger farms. not only does Bolsonaro turn a blind eye, he supports it. years ago, then president, Dilma, said if we (the world) wants to save the Amazon, we should pay for it (meaning pay a fee to no longer turn the Amazon into more agricultural. if that’s what’s needed then we, as humanity, should. otherwise we’re in deepest of deep mess

@johnstanmeyer Our Beautiful Home. A wandering thought came to my mind.. I feel that even though we live on this beautiful planet, have we still not truly accept this place as our Home? Because I am pretty sure if our homes were on fire, we would have done something by now or are we really becoming that ignorant? I agree #hashtags are not going to help, we have to come together and feel how we are hurting our own home and bring awareness by going door to door!! We all have the Power to bring change and Save our Home!
Thank you for sharing these photos with us..

Very sad indeed, John. I've read the fires were (continue to be) intentionally set- making more room to raise cattle! As Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has expressed disdain for conserving the rainforest, his support for industrial growth has reportedly encouraged ranchers and other developers to move more brazenly into undeveloped forest land—much of which is indigenous territory. Dreadful!!

@johnstanmeyer he is blaming NGO’s with absolutely no evidence, stating they are doing it with the sole purpose of damaging his reputation. Narcissistic psychopath suggesting that those who protect the forest are burning their own houses. Disgraceful times for Brazilians and the world

We need to get every fire-fighting plane on Earth to fly down there and put the fires out. Holding leaders accountable is important, yes, but the urgency is to save our lungs from complete devastation. Only then can we know if we’ll survive long enough to punish them.
